How to make your iPhone save photos as JPG

Change one camera setting so your iPhone takes JPG photos instead of HEIC — and what it means for existing photos.

Convert your existing HEIC photos
  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Camera, then Formats.
  3. Choose Most Compatible.

New photos will be saved as JPG and videos as H.264. Files will be larger, so they take more storage.

What about photos I already have?

This setting doesn't change existing photos. To convert those, use the HEIC to JPG converter.
