How to open HEIC photos on Windows

Ways to open iPhone HEIC photos on a Windows PC — with Microsoft's extensions, or by converting them to JPG in your browser.

Option 1: Install Microsoft's extensions

On Windows 10 and 11, the HEIF Image Extensions (and sometimes HEVC Video Extensions) from the Microsoft Store let the Photos app open HEIC files. Other apps may still not support them.

Option 2: Convert to JPG in your browser

Open PhotoFixer in Chrome or Edge and drop your HEIC files onto the converter. No software install needed, and the JPGs work in every Windows app.
